HTCI Step 5

In The House That Cleans Itself, Step 5, you are supposed to take pictures and write notes about the natural flow of clutter and mess in your house. You are also supposed to post a sign that says excuse the mess, so I did! I let my house get messy for a few days, didn’t really pick up much, then I played “detective”. Wow what piggy’s we can be! The garage is by far the worst. It is the throw all and we haven’t quite gotten all the Christmas stuff put away yet. Here are a few pictures. This next week I am supposed to evaluate all that I noticed. Make notes about it and figure out what things need to be taken care of. Here are some pictures of my mess, SOO embarrassing for me to show the world these pictures BUT I will be happy to show the ending results. Trust me I am not showing you the worst of it. This Step was hard because I had to let things pile up more then usual and I am STILL trying to get things put back especially the laundry. I did notice that the worst places are my drawers and closets, yikes! One thing that drives me crazy is kids projects/papers/notes what do you do with them?! I hate thowing them away but I don’t know what to do with them? I have had no good solutions yet, do you have any?

  1. I started putting pictures and things in 3 ring binders, and then we sort through them as time allows. Special papers and projects from school I have in the clear tote boxes – one of these days will have them sorted by kid and age or grade, but at least for now they are safely tucked in a tote box, layered by grade anyway …

As you know, I watch MANY reorganizing shows (“Clean House”, “Neat”, “Mission Organization”, etc.) One of the suggestions, for children’s paper projects, that comes up in all of the shows is to pick your very favorites to frame & hang or display (if 3-D). The rest, they recommend taking pictures of and putting in a scrapbook. If you use a program such as http://www.snapfish.com , you could put them together in books by child & even by year if you like. Also, you can pick some of those that you take pictures of, to make cards and to give as framed gifts to grandparents for special occasions.
