Seven o’clock at night and on my sixth cup of coffee. Trying to find motivation for my hour long workout session. Still feeling zero, zip. A huge wave of guilt rushed down my spine. I knew my workout was not going to happen.
I look at hubby, he looks tired too. “Hey I think we should skip the workout and get to bed.”
“Yeah, I agree,” he sighs.
“Will this set me back for my weight loss goal?” I ask.
Rolling his eyes he says, “how the heck am I supposed to know that?”
I wanted some approval from him that my decision to not workout would be okay. As if he is the one who needs to grant me permission.
Why did I do that? I am my own person, why would I need him to approve my not working out? Hmm a question for my subconscious to chew on…
Lets go back to the coffee. SIXTH CUP OF COFFEE, and the last cup was at 7 o’clock at night?! Maybe I was lacking coffee?
Let’s think this through for a minute: too exhausted to workout + six cups of coffee (at 7pm) = Natalie needs more sleep.
Today I talked to my amazing health coach, Kendall Covitz. She gently told me what I already knew but did not want to accept. I drink too much coffee. The fact that I am drinking 3-5 cups on average a day says something and it ain’t good.
Kendall said that when you lack sleep your body searches in any place it can to get energy. Food, coffee, burnout. Your body looks for energy, in any form, when it’s lacking rest.
In this phase of my life I am quite chaotic but the only way I will get sleep is if I stick to a routine. I am finding it essential.
I set up a routine two weeks ago and have been successful at following it. Then I slacked off last weekend and ended up staying up too late and it threw me off.
So how about you? Do you drink too much coffee or get too little sleep? What is the main reason you lack sleep? Projects, housekeeping, kiddos?
Kiddos used to wake me up at night. If you have troubles with that go HERE to hopefully find some answers and help.
If it’s not kiddos then what will you do to help get some more shut eye in the next week? Share below I’d love to hear your thoughts and tips on getting a full nights rest!

PSST: Read THIS GREAT ARTICLE by Michael Hyatt about sleep. The article is very informative about why more sleep is so important.
