Hey Pinterest users the Diaper Rash Remedy is below, continue reading
I have a hard time believing 100% in “cure alls”. I really believe that there is a balance to everything we use. Our bodies are so complex that I do not think there is ONE thing in particular that is going to heal all ailments. Lately there has been a big hype about coconut oil. Coconut is one of my favorite flavors and smells so the idea of it be medicinal peaked my interest. Click this link, www.coconutresearchcenter.org to read more about the possible benifts of using coconut oil. I knew coconut was powerful but I did not realize how versitale it was until I started seeing more products using coconut pop up on Pinterest. Seeing these DIY products insprired me to use coconut oil to heal a sunburn in one night. When I saw how amazing it worked for a sunburn I started experimenting with more home concoctions. I was given tips from one of my dear readers and friends, Tara, to try coconut oil deodorant. I also found a great idea on whipping coconut oil into a lotion and a neat recipe for coconut oil scrub! Recently I have used coconut oil lotion for diaper rash on my baby.
If those reasons are not enough to make you want to try coconut oil then maybe this next fact will be… Tara also shared with me that you can use coconut oil to pull toxins from your body! Read more about oil pulling HERE. I think there are many different ways to heal your body and though I do not think coconut is a cure-all I think it is definitely worth using on a daily basis. Below are links to and my suggestions on how to use coconut oil. I made the deodorant, scrub and lotion all at the same time and it took me 20 mins! It’s cost effective, the product lasts forever and its healthy! You can’t beat that!
Coconut Deodorant
I found this recipe at www.ourdailylegacy.blogspot.com Below reflects what I did, I put it into a four ounce canning jar. I think it will last me the rest of my life! (not sure how long the shelf life is tho!)
- 2 Tbsp baking soda
- 2 Tbsp cornstarch or arrowroot powder (I used potato starch because it was all I had)
- 3 Tbsp coconut oil
Take your pointer finger, scoop a little bit (about a dime size or smaller) and rub it into your arm pit. Easy peasy! OH AND it’s little black dress friendly!!!
Verdict: I LOVE LOVE LOVE this deodorant! I quit using antiperspirant years ago to use all natural store bought deodorants. Since then have never found anything that works great for me. I either end up with a rash or I still smell oniony at the end of the day, UNTIL NOW! This coconut oil deodorant is my miracle deodorant I LOVE it, defiantly worth a try!!! I only apply once a day and I still smell pretty (and rash free) at the end of the day!
Coconut Scrub
I found a ginger and coconut oil scrub on Pinterest. I love it! My hands, feet and body feel so soft after using it! Find the recipe HERE www.foodformyfamily.com The only thing I did differently was I used lavender essential oil.
Coconut Lotion
I also found this recipe on Pinterest. It came from www.livingthenourishedlife.com
Lotion Base
- 1 cup coconut oil
Scented Lotion
Anti-aging Face Cream
- 2-4 drops frankincense essential oil
- 1 tsp rose oil
Diaper Rash Remedy
- 2-4 drops lavender essential oil
- coconut lotion base (recipe above)
Add oil while whipping or stir in once in storing container.
Verdict: ONE application is typically all it takes to cure my baby’s sore bum! If it’s a bad rash then it take 2-3 applications including an overnight application. The most amazing and wonderful thing about this is that it doesn’t hurt her when I put it on! I just slather her lil’ tushy up with the remedy, it is very soothing! Happy tushy, HAPPY BABY!
I hope you have the confidence now to go out and start making your own coconut oil remedies! If you made something PLEASE come back and tell me in a comment below! I want to hear about it!

Ha! You are quickly convincing me that I don’t buy large enough quantities of coconut oil at a time. I’ve considered buying it by the bucket before, but all these fun scrubs and lotions would certainly call for a big tub o’ coconut oil. Right? Another wonderful thing about coconut oil is that it has a pretty long shelf life. Hooray! What a fun post. I hope it gets lots of hits and the word gets out.
YAY! I had that same thought, I am totally getting a large tub when I can!
Good ideas! I have a huge container of coconut oil. Got it on sale and now am trying to think of ways to use it. I have been using it just straight out of the jar ( put a bit in a small canning jar) I use it on my hair for frizzy days. I have read it also is good for growing hair longer. I use it as moisturizer for my face and lotion. I didn’t think to whip it up and use a fragrance or to use it as a deoderant.
I also cook with it and just eat it by the spoonful sometimes when i am lacking energy. It gives a less anxious boost than coffee. Although I love me a good cup o’ joe.
I am looking forward to trying the deoderant. I use Tom’s but it doesn’t last all day.
Thanks for the post!
OH good idea about the energy boost I’ll have to try that!!!
Glad you enjoyed the post!
It really does work well as diaper ointment! my baby has very sensitive skin and often get a reaction following a bm. Even blisters!!! I tried every ointment under the sun . nothing worked well, I decided to slather a little coconut oil on her bum and it worked like a charm. i have little condiment size containers all over the house filled with coconut oil for whatever one might need . the stuff is amazing.!!
Oh that’s a great idea I will be storing some around the house! Thanks for the tip!
Thank you for stopping by!
Adding a few drops of tea tree oil to the deodorant makes it even better at fighting odor as the tea tree will fend off any stubborn bacteria that isn’t wiped out by the coconut oil.
And of course, you can add your own fragrance oils to make the most amazing smelling under arms ever!
Great idea thank you!
So i’m thinking of using coconut oil as a diaper cream….Now what I’m wondering is for a little girl when you put a cream on the bum, if there is a rash on the front (normal diaper rash), is it safe to use? It’s such a sensitive area that I would hate to make things worse…Can anyone tell me if its safe or if they have tried it? I would probably just use straight up coconut oil.
Yes I use the coconut lotion mentioned above all over her. It does wonders! I haven’t seen any problems from using it in the most gentle areas
Her rashes are usually gone within 2-3 applications! If it’s a really stubborn rash it may take two days. I have also noticed that its one of the first things I have ever used that seems soothing to her. She never cries when I put it on! Hope this helps!
Hi,
Just wondering if the lavender oil is necessary for the diaper cream to work or is straight coconut oil fine?
Strait coconut oil should work just fine
The lavender oil will help and be soothing but the coconut oil is the real healing ingredient. You do not need to whip it either you can just grab some out of your jar and slather it on.
Thanks! I bought some today because my daughter has been complaining that diaper cream hurts and I hadn’t found an alternative.
Yes! My baby had the same problem and she soothes right down, even asks for the coconut oil when she’s got a sore butt.
She says “some, wa some” lol Let me know how it works for you!
I started using it when it was recommended for my dandruff. Since then I have fallen in love! I use it on my face for dry skin and it cleared it up right away. Then i mixed it with some eucalyptus oil when my girls were sick and used it in replace if vicks vapor rub. It was a little more mild than the vicks but really helped. I found your page looking for a lotion recipe. I’m going to try one out along with a scrub
I am curious as to how you use it for dandruff. Did you use it strait like a shampoo or conditioner? My husband struggles with dandruff. How has it been working for you? I do the same thing for “vicks” I use Young Living’s RC oil. Love it! Thanks for your comment and stopping by!
