Ahhh, smell that sweet spring… AAACCCHHOOOO!!!! …air… Can you sadly relate to that first sentence? Are your allergies driving you crazy?! Do your kids mope away from the window when they see the ice cream truck drive by, knowing they can’t even ask because they suffer from a dairy allergy? Maybe you have to pass up your favorite beer because as soon as you drink it you break out in hives? Feeling dizzy, headachy and low on energy most days of the week? Have you had to turn down your kid’s many pleas for a pet because you are allergic? Do you have symptoms no doctor or allergist has been able to relieve? Then you have come to the right place! I know this all sounds a little too good to be true but you CAN heal your allergies, you can live a life of comfort and enjoy the place in which you live. Are you ready for the secret? Keep reading….
For years my oldest daughter has struggled with eczema. For over a decade my husband has dreaded the spring and summer because of the flying pollens. My middle kiddo hasn’t slept seven nights strait in her life without getting up at least once or twice a week. My baby has struggled with diaper rash and eczema most of her life now. I have lived the last twenty-four years of my life thinking that I had chronic fatigue. I have done everything from western modern medicine to homeopathy for all of the above symptoms that my family dealt with. Some things worked for a while, some things eased the frustrations, and nothing has proven to work. Until NOW! Things are changing rapidly for our symptoms. Here is our story…
A friend of mine who lives in California told me about an allergy treatment clinic that she had been taking her family to. She is very familiar with the symptoms my family deals with on a daily basis. She told me that we MUST come down there and start treatments as soon as we could. She gave me the name and number of the treatment center. The amazing woman who owns the clinic, Denise Wood, answered the phone. We talked for a good 30-60 minutes. She was patient, kind and understanding. She told me how the treatments worked and that it would definitely be worth our trip to try them. Mike and I talked it over and decided we would make it a priority to go.
Taking a road trip is expensive so we knew we had to plan well for this trip. We had many bumps in the road but continued to sacrifice and save our dimes to go. Seven months later we hit the road to San Francisco! When we finally pulled up to Advanced Allergy Solutions my heart did a flip! I was so excited to finally start the road to recovery for our family!
The sweet people at the clinic welcomed us in. The environment was relaxed and enjoyable. The process was painless and easy. Before I go into how the process works I want you to understand that I am not an expert and I may have a few details wrong, this is how I understood and remember how the process works. The person giving you treatments goes over your paperwork with you (medical history and symptoms), they ask you questions about what symptoms are the worst and what things you think you react the most too. You lay on a table next to a computer. The person treating you places a cuff around your arm, similar to a blood pressure cuff. The cuff is connected to the computer. Then they start muscle testing you. The cuff sends electronic signals to your body, you feel nothing, you have no idea anything is going on with the cuff except that it’s on your arm. These electronic signals are a representation of many different allergens and anything extra you and the treater have discussed. For instance, my oldest daughter just started swim team so I asked that she be checked to see if she had any allergies to pool water. Which in fact she did have an allergy to some of the pool chemicals! Once they determine exactly what you’re allergic to, they can start treatment. The treatment is the best part! You sit up and as they electronically expose you to your allergy, through the cuff, they run an instrument up and down your back that pulses. It feels good, like a message. The pulses stimulate your nerves. Having this done while being exposed to your allergy sends a signal to your body that the substance you are allergic too is not something your body needs to fight. Once they are done stimulating your nerves you lay down, they muscle test you one last time and then you are finished. You must then avoid that allergen you were treated for for two hours. So you can’t go eat a chocolate bar right after your treatments if you were just treated for chocolate, you need to wait two hours. That’s how it works, that is it and oh sooo easy!
The initial treatment, where they figure out all that you are allergic to, takes about an hour. Each follow up appointment after that takes about 20 minutes. You should be cured from your allergy symptoms after that! It is very rare that you need to be treated for that allergy again! Best part?! You can go expose yourself to those things you were once allergic too! I wouldn’t go on a sugar binge if you were treated for sugar but you can eat it without symptoms! Easiest treatment for allergies I have ever done!
What can you expect after treatments? Well that all depends on what you were treated for and what your symptoms were. For us, and many people we heard about, the respiratory allergies eased up right away. Mike has been thoroughly enjoying spring since the treatments! He walks around in amazement at how he can breath as if it’s the middle of winter! I have had more energy than I know what to do with! I have more focus as well! My middle kiddo has been sleeping through the night! The first week of treatments was the first time she had ever slept seven nights in a row without waking up!!! She was allergic to her own serotonin! No wonder she couldn’t sleep! My other two kiddos who struggle with skin issues are still in transition. In fact I think we are all still processing our treatments. Back in the beginning when I talked to Denise, over the phone, she said that the symptoms you have can get worse before they get better.
We did our treatments a little unconventionally. We had one or two treatments a day, every day, within a fourteen day period. That is not what is typically recommended. Denise usually recommends one treatment a week so you can see how your body processes and reacts to a treatment. Being that we live 1000+ miles away from San Francisco, we didn’t really have a choice but to do as many as we could all at once. We risked a few things doing treatments this way. Some treatments may not “hold” and may have to be re-treated again in the future. The symptoms we had been dealing with may get worse before they get better. We sent many signals and messages to our bodies, they need time to process it and take it all in. So my kids with skin issues look pretty sad at the moment. I will say that it’s the first time I have ever seen a breakout of eczema and been EXCITED about it!! In fact my oldest has had chronic UTI’s and has wet the bed numerous times over the years. This was a symptom of her allergies. The first night of treatment she wet the bed and it continued for about ten days! I was HAPPY about it! This told me that their treatments were working and their bodies are processing and implementing the treatments!
I am sure my kids with skin issues will have more flaring before they get over it completely. Thank goodness for coconut oil! It tames the itch and takes down the inflammation. Denise also recommended the GAPS diet to heal their guts which could be another piece to the skin problem puzzle. I will be looking into the diet and starting them on it shortly. I will give you an allergy update a few months down the road to tell you how it’s all turned out for us. At the moment we couldn’t be happier! We are so excited about this new way of treating allergies! One of the other positive things about these treatments is the price. My hubs just told me the other day that he heard of a person who got a series of allergy shots that cost about $5000!!! YIKES! These shots may not even work! I have heard of a few people who got the shots and they did nothing to treat the symptoms! The cost of the treatments we did is very realistic and compares to the price of a chiropractor or acupuncturist.
An interesting fact about the treatments is that it’s not just a general allergen they treat you for, they get very specific! Take trees for instance, they do not just clear you of trees, they figure out exactly which trees are bothering you. You may be allergic to a maple tree but not an apple tree. It’s amazing! Also treating one thing may clear other allergens up. Lets say you show you are allergic to dogs and dust mites. First, they figure out which one your body reacts the most to, say, dust mites. So they treat you for dust mites and when they go to check you for dogs (which are big carriers of dust mites) at your next treatment you are no longer showing a weakness to them. It may have just been the mites all along. That is just one example of how specific they can get! Here is a list of just a few things my family was treated for. Not all of us were allergic to the same things but most of us had a common allergen like sugars.

An interesting thing to note! My oldest kiddo who has had the most symptoms had fewer allergies than my middle who had the least amount of symptoms! I was amazed!

Great post, Mae. On the anaphylactic allergies, they won’t treat them, but they can treat other allergies in the same person that are not anaphylactic. When you take some of the allergen load off the body, it can help to lesson the more severe allergies.
This is very interesting wish I lived closer to try out. I have started making more mealsbGAPS free. I have a friend who could give you some great resources about the diet. My strawberry shortcake is GAPS free if you do not use the baking powder because it has corn in it. So happy for you!
VERY cool! I see a trip to the bay area in our future. Are there any other locations similar to this? I would love to be free of some allergies and mine don’t even seem that severe.
