Be sure you stop by and the BEFORE PICS OF THIS OFFICE HERE.
This post was originally posted March 29, 2011.
I am so glad this week is over! What a mess our room has been! I am very excited to reveal to you the new inspirational office of mine! I feel so relaxed and inspired in this space. It is definitely the spot that makes me the happiest when clean and I intend to keep it that way! My oldest daughter was looking at it yesterday and said, “Wow mommy, I wish it would stay this nice forever.”
I laughing said, “What do you mean by that?”
“Your office is always messy mommy.” She replied.
Wow! Is that a statement or what?! I know my kids are perceptive, more then I will ever give them enough credit for, but who knew they would notice mommy’s desk being a mess? I told her it will stay this way, it’s too pretty not too. That conversation gave me a mental note that maybe once her room has a little paint and a little more coordinating design she may want to keep it clean more? Maybe? I can hope, I’ll never stop hoping! Okay back to the reveal. So it wouldn’t be right to have a “perfect” room to reveal if I am always talking about how we need to just strive for progress not perfection right? My room is far from perfect but it certainly has progressed from a clothes closet. I knew there was potential when we first looked at this house, I am blown away with how it actually turned out! Who knew a CLOSET would end up being my favorite room in the house?! As I said on Monday, we moved here about a year ago with the intentions of making it our own. This room certainly motivates me to keep organizing our house and someday put our creative touch on the rest of the house.
What’s not perfect about this space? Well the bins are tidy but I still need to organize the files inside, I will be working on that this weekend. I might paint the gold frame and matt, it has the roses that Mike drew and gave me in high school. I still need to get picture frames for the wall, I ordered the pictures off Snapfish last night so by the end of next week I will have that finished. I hope to find some cheep-o picture frames this weekend which I will paint the same color as the desk and shelves. I would like to find miss-matched designs in the right sizes. I will post a pic when it’s done. I want to share with you how I decided to place the pictures. Lime green is my accent color and I just so happened to take my kids Valentine pictures with a lime green back ground not knowing this office was a future project. I picked three 5×7 and six 4×6 prints. I took six pieces of paper and cut them into the right shapes and sizes (cut them about a half inch bigger then the actual picture to allow for the frame). I then sketched the kids on each picture to get an idea of what it would look like. I stuck of tape on the paper and stuck them to the wall. I moved them till it looked good to my eye. Now it will be easy to place them when the actual picture and frame are ready.
Overall the space is done. Cleaned, clutter free and ready for me to work in it! Paying bills, keeping up with the finances, scheduling, meal planning, blog writing, school planning, etc. will be a pleasure while sitting in my newly created, inspired space. What is the space in your house that you want to take care of? Maybe it’s not a whole room, maybe it is just a drawer, file folder or counter top. Maybe your “Home Base Zone” is a lot bigger then mine was and your project will take a few weeks. It’s okay! Just take the steps toward starting now!
“As you move throughout your home…remember to be thankful and to keep a grateful heart for all your material blessings. That we have been blessed with a [home] and possessions to get messy in the first place is something we often forget.” p. 45 “The House That Clean’s Itself” by Mindy Starns Clark
I hope you enjoy the reveal and that it inspires you to get going on finding your “Home Base Zone”!
The Process…
Does it EVER amaze you just how much stuff will fit into a small closet or space?! Yes that’s my sweet baby on the bed
Empty, without doors and ready for paint, decor and re-organization.
The Reveal…
I picked a terquoise for the wall color. It is “Reflecting Pool” from Sherwin Williams in the Harmony paint, satin finish.
My mom told me that turquoise was a color of inspiration.
I asked a few friends on Facebook what they thought and turquoise was voted the most popluar color so that it is and I couldn’t be happier with it! I totally feel inspired in here!!!
The papers on the wall next to the mirror are where I am planning to put frames. You read about that above.
Mike will be hanging that white shelf, that is sitting on the green foot stool, tonight to get the external hard drives up and in a safe place.
The green foot stool holds extra printer paper, large mailing envelopes, new notebooks and printer ink.
This is where my bills, important papers to take care of, things to put into my schedule and my HTCI notebook hang out, with a nifty green candle accent.
The green bin is where receipts, papers to file and other things that go, up to the large bins, on my top shelf.
The bins below are storage. The top bin has office supplies, the bin on the bottom has stationary in it.
With the curtain and all the lights on…
Details….
Waitin’ for frames and pictures…
The lighting is awesome! I am so excited about it. Mike brought a suprise home for me last weekend, the chandelier, can you feel anymore fabulous with a chandelier above your head?!
The lights on the underside of the shelf add so much depth to the room, they are mood lights so they have three different light settings. I like the effect the chandelier gives off too, I love it!
How do you like it? Please leave a comment below. Are you doing any summer cleaning projects at the moment?

You did a beautiful job. It looks like it would be a wonderful place to work.
I love it! I’m feeling inspired.
That turned out wonderful! I love it!
You did a beautiful job! It looks like a magazine! I love the colors and the decorative elements. You tied in all the colors very well. The color palette is very inspiring! Good job!! I have found when you are inspired by the decorative/creative elements of a space you are more apt to keep it clean in order to appreciate it’s beauty
And if it does get messy, you’ll get motivated real fast to return it to its former glory
This looks great!
Can you come over and do mine next?!? So beatiful, great job!
