Quiet meditation is one of the most valuable things you can do for yourself, your relationship with God, your family and your business.
What is so important about quiet time, and does it have to be in the morning?
Having quiet time is important because it helps to align your thoughts with your vision for the day. Think of this time as plugging yourself into the energy source of God. It recharges you.
Morning is the “easy” answer to getting this quiet time into your day. It is the time people usually suggest when the topic comes up. Yet many moms find themselves with a kiddo in or at the side of their bed as soon as they crack an eye lid.
Satan has no problem thwarting a mom’s good intentions of getting up early to spend time with God.
I have a few suggestions on how to get that quiet time with God but first I want to share an observation with you.
While driving the other day I noticed people on their phones talking and *texting while driving.
My observation was how much technology (including TV and radio) has interfered with the voice of God. People fill their minds with noise and miss out on the peace and quiet.
(Hold on before you roll your eyes at me. Hear me out. I am not going to stop listening to the radio, podcasts, or stop using my cell phone.)
Do we have to keep our minds occupied? How much more connected to God were our ancestors without technology?
What would have happened if Moses was playing Candy Crush Saga instead of tending his sheep? Do you think he would have heard God’s voice?
So I want to suggest something to you…
Stop. Pray. Listen.
In a recent life coaching class, my teacher said if you scramble the word listen it ends up spelling silent. Try it! Listen – silent.
I believe this is no coincidence! In order to listen to God we must be silent.
The next time you find yourself alone. Stop. Pray. Listen.
Turning everything off when driving in the car without passengers. (I have even done this with kids in the car. It’s good for them to learn how to be in silence.)
Do you have work time? Before you start working, pray and listen for Him.
How about before bed? Find a quiet corner of the house and take a few minutes of quiet.
And, if it works for you, by all means do it in the morning!
How often should this be done? Well I would love to do it everyday! Realistically, I stop to listen about 2-3 times a week.
Be gracious with yourself about the season of life you are in. Having kiddos, a home to care for, a husband to be with and a business to run is a lot! God knows this and He is gracious with you. He knows what you are up against.
A few minutes with God can give you a lifetime of progress.
God is here waiting for you. Find some quiet and hear what He wants to share with you.
*Disclaimer: Texting and driving is dangerous and irresponsible for innumerable life-threatening reasons you already know. Please do not EVER do it! I won’t either.
