HTCI: Kids Room’s Reveal!!!

Well the kids rooms are finally done. I can’t say completely done. I have a few little projects here or there to finish up. I plan on making some valances and painting some designs on a couple walls, one kiddo needs a window seat cushion and a chair for their desk! Just little odds and ends projects that are fun and will take some time to get done. The organizing is complete! Oh happy day!!! I am so happy the rooms have some rhyme and reason now! If you read any of the earlier posts from this week you will have read that we had just moved into this house a year prior to me tackling the organization. When we moved I was in the depths of morning sickness and did not care what the closets looked like so we just tossed the stuff in them! Oh what a fun mess that was to deal with later. Well its done now!

Part of the reason the kids rooms have taken so long for me to share with you is because I wanted to paint and decorate them. We had a lot of fun making their rooms fun and unique just like they each are. I hope you enjoy today’s reveal. I certainly had fun doing it! I do want to throw a huge thank you out to my mom before we look at the before and afters! You all need to know that SHE organized the kids closets. I could not for the life of me figure out how to make them work. She came over in one day and had them complete by the following day. I love you Mom! Thank you SOOOOO much for tackling the project I was purely stuck on! Readers take this as a lesson, if you get stuck on an area of your home, invite a friend or a family member with some organizational ability to come give you advice on how to take care of it. You will be ever so thankful you did! Alright enjoy…

Not So Little Anymore…

This is my oldest kiddo’s room. When she was born we lived in a rental that forbid anything but white paint on the walls. When we purchased our current home we told her that we would paint her room. She was so excited! Well a few things happened before her room could be done. Remember I said I was pregnant when we moved in? Well I had the nesting urge to get baby’s room as soon as possible so my oldest sat by, patiently, and watched the soon to be baby’s room become bright with color. Once baby made her arrival things were a little to busy to do anything with my oldest’s room. We then had some sleep issues to contend with for our middle kiddo. She was not sleeping well and so we decided we should try to help her sleep environment. So once again our oldest sat quietly, patiently, while we painted her sister’s room. Finally two weeks ago we got the paint buckets out and colored our oldest’s room! She is delighted to have pretty purple walls now! We also transitioned her room to from a little girls room to an older kid’s room. It won’t be to long, (sniff, sniff) before our baby is “to old for dolls” and such things. We kept these things in mind as we did her room. It will be easy to transition into a teenagers room in the future.

Before…

After…

Hubs free handed this charming tree, I then took fake flowers pulled the stems off and glued plastic gems in the centers. I hot glued the flowers and more plastic gems around the tree. It looks AMAZING in person! The pictures do not give it justice!

Below is a mirror that I found at a garage sale. It WAS black. I took spray paint to it as soon as I got home! I started with hot pink, then gold and finished it with a hot pink sparkle. At first I was worried it looked to “little girl” princess like. I took a trip to Michael’s craft store and found the “Dream” sign, pink sparkle paint and American Girl flower stickers. I painted the “Dream” with the sparkle paint and hot glued it on the mirror. I then simply placed the 3D stickers all over the mirror. It turned out adorable and age appropriate for my kiddo! I even sneak in there to use it, it’s the best mirror in the house now! :)

This shelf below was another place I had to get creative. If you look in the before pictures you will see it was an oak color. We took white paint to it so it would match her room better. The paint was not looking so great on the back so my BRILLIANT  sister-in-law told me to take scrapbook paper and modge podge it to the back! It turned out really cute! I do want to suggest that if you do that you follow the instructions HERE. I did not look at these instructions until it was too late, I wouldn’t have had any bubbling paper if I would have listened to THIS lady. Non-the-less it’s still adorable and girlie LOVES it!

See that desk below?! That was an AWESOME find I got at and estate sale! It is amazing quality and I talked the seller down to $75 from $100. SCORE!!!

YES I photoshopped the desk a bit. For privacy I took my kiddo’s name out and put “Strive For Progress” on it. It really has her name in wooden letters there.

The art below was a fun way to have my kiddo help with her room. She painted the “love” sign. She also glued the buttons on the scrapbook paper, which we framed. If you look on the middle shelf on the desk above you will see four pink butterflies in a frame. She also helped me glue those to paper in a small shadow box frame.

Once again, THANK YOU MAMA FOR FIXING THE KIDS CLOSETS!!!

For Our Surfer Girl…

The middle kiddo had a lot going on in her room! It is part playroom, part bedroom. She has the biggest room with the most space and we do not have a play room so naturally she has ended up with the majority of the toys. We did purge a lot of toys as well. We kept only the toys that meant something and that they actually played with. She is a very social person so it works out well that her room is also a playroom.

The most serene and happy I have ever seen this kiddo is at the beach. She LOVES the beach more then anyone I know! So I decided she needed a beach themed room. There are pictures on the wall from our last vacation to the beach and her room has fish hanging from the ceiling as well as many other nautical decor items. She loves her room and we all love the vacation feel to it. Enjoy!

Before…

The kitchen set was becoming a HUGE mess problem in her room so we moved it to my kitchen and it has been a very useful tool for keeping my tot busy as I cook.

A word of advice. Do not put a desk in small children’s rooms. They only become a source of clutter, potential big messes and frustration. This desk went BYE BYE!

After…

This toy chest was a great $19 find that my mom purchased at Ross. Love that place!

The Baby’s Room

This wasn’t much of a problem area when we started THCI project. Since it was decorated before baby was born it was already looking nice. The mess was easily cleaned up. I made it more of a park theme with birds. It’s a bright and cheery room with little homemade birdies that hang from the ceiling.
