Kid Savvy: Healthy Snacks For The Road!!!

Healthy Snack Ideas For Your Next Road Trip!

My family and I just got home from a 15 day road trip. This was not a road trip for the faint of heart! With California traffic (YIKES you CA drivers are too CRAZY for this small town girl!!!) we literally spent four hours a day in our car (not including the 12+ hours a day for two days just getting to our destination and then two days getting home!). When we arrived home our car said we had driven 4000 miles!!! You may be asking yourself why on earth would we put ourselvs through this. It’s a bit complicated really, we needed to get allergy treatments for our family. The treatment center for the type of treatments we needed is 1000 miles away. We have very dear family friends who live 70 miles away from the treatment center. It was a bit of a drive each day from our friends house to the center. Even with a daily drive we knew that getting to see our friends and paying about $50 a day in gas was better then $200+ a day on a hotel room with no friends!

Being confinded to our car meant I would need to be prepared with snacks. I feel as though we did a good job of staying healthy and satisfied. Here is the list of meals we ate and snacks we grabbed. I hope it gives you some great ideas for your next road trip!

Trip There:

The first day of our trip...

  • Breakfast: Coffee shop
  • Lunch & Dinner: Tortillas, deli turkey, cheese sticks, lettuce and a sauce I placed into a baggie which was easliy discarded when done. We rolled it all up together, YUM!

The second day of our trip…

  • Breakfast: I booked a hotel with free breakfast
  • Lunch: Whole Foods (we grabbed the serve yourself salad bar)
  • Dinner: Bagels I had packed.

Trip Home:

The first day of our trip...

  • Breakfast: Coffee shop
  • Lunch: In & Out Burger, we just couldn’t resist!
  • Dinner: Whole Foods (we grabbed the serve yourself salad bar)

The second day of our trip…

  • Breakfast: Same hotel with free breakfast
  • Lunch & Dinner: Pitas & Hummus (I picked up at Whole Foods the day before)

Snacks:

Well there you have it, a run down on our road trip cuisine! We ate with our friends or at some local restaurants during the trip. You can find links below to the snacks we ate. I ordered all my snacks before hand from Amazon (YAY for Amazon Prime!) so I could save money buying bulk and not have to buy them on the road. I took a reusable bag and dumped all the snacks in and mixed them up, it made for easy grabbing. I also have pleanty of baby wipes on hand for any messes! I would love to know what your favorite snacks are for your road trips, tell me below! :)

    • Does a car floor ever stay clean on a trip?! We did do trash collection and crumb pick up at every stop so that helped :) They were not eating all day, kinda sounds like it doesn’t it lol :) They had 1-3 snacks a day.
