I am so excited it’s 2014 I can hardly stand it! It’s so fun starting a new year but also awesome to end an incredible one as well! Time keeps on ticking away but the fun doesn’t end! Are you optimistic about what God has in store for you for this fabulous new year?
I wanted my first post of the year to be a healthy one! I mean really, isn’t that what the instagram, facebook and pinterest feeds are all buzzing about currently? So since you are all tuned into what’s hot in health I thought I’d give you a healthy smoothie and health tip for the new year! Following is my version of a green smoothie and also a pre-coffee-start-your-morning-off-right tip that I have known about for years and am finally applying to my life!
Strive For Progress Green Smoothie (Serves 2)
- 2 Cups Water
- 1 apple
- 4 kale leaves
- 1 cup spinach
- 4 celery stalks
- 1 banana (optional if you need it sweeter for kids)
- 2 cups ice
- 1 scoop or packet of your favorite protein powder (I use the vegan Shakeology)
I whiz it all up in my Vitamix and split it with my hubby. It is our post workout “refueler”. My older kids said it taste like chocolate and banana or berry and banana depending on the protein drink flavor I use. According to my calorie tracker app (mynetdairy) one serving is about 198 calories with a banana and around 98 calories without one.
My Pre-Coffee Tip!
You’ll probably never see me without my coffee cup full of coffee, water or tea. I am a liquid lover! Water is my drink of choice but I love a good hot cup of coffee in the mornings and tea throughout rest of the day. Recently I have been hearing more about drinking lemon water first thing in the morning before you put anything else into your body. I have known about this for at least 12 years but I have ignored it until now.
Maybe it was being exposed to the lemon water fact three times in one week or it could be that I am just on a roll with good habits lately! But whatever the reason I am ready for it now! So here I go, my 5 am cup of coffee is now turning into a cup of lemon with 1/2 tsp of cinnamon. If you check back in with me around 8am you’ll find me chillin’ for a few minutes sipping my hot coffee but it feels good knowing that my body has been cleansed with that fresh lemon water first.
