The House That Cleans Itself: Step Two

This is a place that you are the happiest when it’s clean and the most frustrated when it’s dirty and messy. For me it was an easy pick! My home office. I can’t stand that dark and dirty cave! It is where I am supposed to be the most inspired and yet it doesn’t do anything for me but make me frustrated. I have piles everywhere and I believe it is the reason I get so behind on things that are very important to me like baby books and quilting. The other problem with this office of mine is where it’s located. We took the second closet in our bedroom and turned it into an office. My bedroom is not a restful place when there is an office in it making a mess. When my office is messy my brain feels messy. The rest of the house could be picked up and spotless but if that office is a mess the house feels messy to me. There is a quote that is absolutely right in THCI book.  The author’s friend says…

“When you can’t get a handle on anything else in your house, figure out that one place that most affects you emotionally, clean it up, and keep it clean no matter what.” ~The House That Cleans Itself, by Mindy Starns Clark

I know that the place that effects my emotions the most is my office. Not only is it my office, it is also the place where my inspirations meet realizations. My creativity is allowed to flourish and flow freely. If my place of refuge is a mess then my inspirations are flat lined. I know what needs to happen this weekend and that I need to take it very seriously. My office is getting a make over!

Okay so here it goes, the “before” pictures…GASP!!! Are you ready for this??? I am really putting myself out there to show you one of the worst of all places in my home..

Okay you have seen my embarrassing mess! What is the place in your home that makes it hard to relax if it’s messy? Tell me in a comment below.

Progressively yours, Mae

Ummm, if this is the messiest place in your house I feel quite ashamed of even my most mediocre messes. That office looks pretty lovely to me. But then I don’t even have an office. I move into my dining room table and just when I’m getting going, I have to pack it all up and put it away. Wowsers. I’m in trouble.

My messiest place is my kitchen. I clean it all sparkly then it’s so lovely I want to create 5 masterpieces at once. And I do. And it’s delicious. But it leaves monster messes and I’m spent after my cook-off. I’ve got to figure out how to cook in quantities that leave me some energy for immediate cleanup. :o )

This is a good tip though. Our kitchen and one living area and breakfast area are all connected. When the kitchen’s a mess the whole area looks like a mess. If I make my kitchen a constant cleaning priority that’s 1/3 of my house that looks clean! Great idea.

    • I love it! A clean kitchen is my second very close runner up! When the kitchen is a mess my brain is frazzled! I love your positiveness, it’s great “1/3 of my house that looks clean”. I always tell people, I am the messiest person I know, I am just too over efficient at cleaning it up, I usually end up doing something like more dishes and spending more time cleaning the mess right before I make another one. Ugh! We must strive for progress!!! Thanks Tara! :)
